2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu hasn’t had an ideal start to the season and critics have been quick to conclude that the 19-year-old is not focused enough on tennis. Eugenie Bouchard, who burst onto the big scene in 2014, certainly can relate to Raducanu as she faced lots of criticism after her results went downhill after a great 2014 season.
Nowadays, it seems that every tennis fan with a social media has a solution to what Raducanu needs to do in order to start winning. When Bouchard started losing, she was getting “advice” daily on social media on what she needed to change.
Also, Bouchard was criticized for basically every move or thing she did. On Twitter, Bouchard stumbled upon Raducanu’s quote: “I’m training five or six hours a day [of training], I’m at the club for 12 hours a day.
But I throw out one post in the car on the way to practice and all of a sudden I don’t focus on tennis or.”
“I feel you, Emma,” Bouchard responded to Raducanu’s quote.

“If you just see – like on the news or on social media – me signing this deal or that deal, I feel like it’s quite misleading. Because I’m doing five or six hours a day [of training], I’m at the club for 12 hours a day.
But I throw out one post in the car on the way to practice and all of a sudden, it’s – you know – I don’t focus on tennis or whatever,” Raducanu told The Telegraph. “I think that it is unfair, but it’s something that I have learned to deal with more and become a bit more insensitive to the outside noise.
And at the end of the day, I feel like my days [working with commercial partners] are pretty limited. I’m not even doing crazy days. I feel like I’m doing like three or four days every quarter, so it’s really not that much.”
