The Tiger Effect Has Already Hit St. Andrews

More than 1.3 million ticket applications have been submitted for The Open this summer and we have one guess as to why that is. Not since Tiger’s triumph at St. Andrews in 2000 have crowds been as big as they will be in July, as nearly 300,000 spectators will walk the grounds.

Back stateside, one of golf’s power couples tied the knot, as Dustin Johnson and Paulina Gretzky said “I do.” There was no shortage of star power to go around as The Great One walked his daughter down the aisle, but the one question everyone came away with – was that really Dustin Johnson’s handwriting?

While droves of golf fans will be at St. Andrews this summer, one player they likely won’t see is Greg Norman who was publicly shut down by the R&A when he hinted at a special exemption. Perhaps there’s another tour where he can get that exemption he was hoping for?
