23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams described playing against Venus as playing against herself because Venus is also a tough competitor and gets back almost everything. The Williams sisters are widely considered as the greatest sister duo in tennis history.
Serena has 23 Grand Slams, while Venus is a seven-time Grand Slam champion. Also, the Williams sisters won 14 Grand Slams in doubles. The Williams sisters met 31 times in official WTA matches and Serena leads their head-to-head 19-12.
“To me, the most frustrating thing about playing against my sister is that it’s like playing against myself. I am pretty tough and she is pretty tough, so she gets every ball back,” Williams said on the Ellen DeGeneres show, as quoted on Sportskeeda.
“Every time I get a great serve, she’s [gets it back]. It would be an ace against anyone else but she gets it back.”

The on-court rivalry never affected the personal relationship between the Williams sisters.
Serena and Venus have always been very close and to this day their relationship remains impeccable. “We still are extremely spiritual people and have a great base of faith, and we know that we have so much to look forward to,” Serena explained.
“We also know that at the end of the day, like, tennis lasts for 10-20 years, but family lasts forever. Even when I’m playing my sister, I always think: ‘Okay this is just for this moment, this is just for this day, and even if we’re emotional about it for a couple of days later, she is always going to be my flesh and blood and nothing else is going to ever come between that.’
And so it’s really important for us to feel that and why so much just kind of rolls off our shoulders, and we just go with it.”
