The 23-time Grand Slam champion previously expressed a desire to be back on court in time for Wimbledon.
Might we see Serena Williams return to action for the first time in a year? If her latest Instagram post is any indication, the comeback may be sooner than we thought.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion posted a reel to Instagram set to Dua Lipa’s smash hit “Physical,” one that shows her trade her dress and heels for a practice outfit and sneakers.
Williams was last on court at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, where she was forced to retire from her first-round encounter with Aliaksandra Sasnovich after slipping on the slick Centre Court grass.
In the year since, she has made the rounds on red carpets—including the 94th Academy Awards in support of her family biopic “King Richard”—and graced events like the F1 Grand Prix in Miami.
In a chat with NFL player Aaron Rogers several weeks ago, the former world No. 1 teased a possible return in time for SW19, an announcement that came on the heels of longtime coach Patrick Mouratoglou’s move to working with rival Simona Halep. Halep, lest we forget, defeated Williams to win the 2019 Wimbledon title.
Looking fit and fresh, how might Williams, who turned 40 last September, mix it up with the current crop of top players? Something tells me she can still keep it physical.
