Andy Roddick: “Only one is able to compete with the Big 3”

Nick Kyrgios is having one of the best moments of his career. After reaching his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, the Australian returned to the court in Atlanta and won the doubles tournament alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The following week, specifically in Washington, Kyrgios managed to do even better and triumphed in both singles and doubles, expressing an incredible level of play. The Canberra native broke his fast, which lasted three years, precisely in the event that saw him lift the trophy to the sky in 2019.

Kyrgios, starting from the season on grass, now seems to have changed his mentality and could pose a real threat to all the other players at the US Open, where he is likely to be seeded. Speaking about the last Grand Slam of the year and the performances that are characterizing Kyrgios’s journey in Montreal, Andy Roddick expressed his point of view on upcoming tournaments at the Rich Eisen Show.

Andy Roddick: “Only one is able to compete with the Big 3”

He explained: “Can Kyrgios Win the US Open? He is there, he is part of this group. Obviously we will have to deal with the drama of Novak Djokovic (Whim the presence of the Serbian in Flushing Meadows is in strong doubt) No one has ever questioned Kyrgios’s physical abilities.

He is the only player who can compete physically with the Big 3, at least from my point of view. His physical talent, however, does not always match up with perfect physical shape. He certainly doesn’t have the same mental strength as the Big 3.

Reaching the final at Wimbledon, winning several games in the best of five sets and playing well under pressure are all good things for Nick. In Washington the playing conditions were brutal: winning both singles and doubles was a great sign.

What he did in Washington consecrates him as one of the first two, perhaps three, favorites at the US Open.” Kyrgios could really be the great favorite to win in Flushing Meadows: in three weeks we will know what will happen in New York.
