Nick Kyrgios is having one of the best moments of his career. After reaching his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, the Australian returned to the court in Atlanta and won the doubles tournament alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.
The following week, specifically in Washington, Kyrgios managed to do even better and triumphed in both singles and doubles, expressing an incredible level of play. The Canberra native broke his fast, which lasted three years, precisely in the event that saw him lift the trophy to the sky in 2019.
Kyrgios, starting from the season on grass, now seems to have changed his mentality and could pose a real threat to all the other players at the US Open, where he is likely to be seeded. He is the only player who can compete physically with the Big 3, at least from my point of view. His physical talent, however, does not always match up with perfect physical shape. He certainly doesn’t have the same mental strength as the Big 3.
Reaching the final at Wimbledon, winning several games in the best of five sets and playing well under pressure are all good things for Nick. In Washington the playing conditions were brutal: winning both singles and doubles was a great sign.
