On Wednesday, the PGA Tour made some drastic changes to its bottom line and payouts for players coming in the next year. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods are doing more than just In partnership with the PGA Tour, TGL, a tech-based golf league founded by Woods and McIlroy and their joint venture TMRW Sports, is introducing yet another new wrinkle into the game of golf.

Played in a custom-built area, TGL pits two teams of three in a tech-based tournament beginning in just a few years’ time.

McIlroy and Woods are the first two golfers planning to play in the splinter league, with more expected to join up soon.

What is TGL?

TGL (unclear what the initials stand for) is a forthcoming, tech-based golf league that’s set to kick off in a few years’ time.

In partnership with the PGA Tour, the Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods-founded league pits two teams against one another in a tech-based arena. There will be six teams, with three PGA Tour golfers per team.

The arena is “a data-rich, virtual course complete with a tech-infused, short-game complex” and features a “green-side fan experience,” as well. Here’s a look at what you can expect:

It’s unclear how matches, tournaments or rules will play out, but the reveal video seems to indicate that they’ll be timed on a two-hour limit.

According to McIlroy, the tour will be “additive and complementary” to the PGA Tour.
