Cristiano Ronaldo completed his move to Al-Nassr at the start of January, claiming his work was done in Europe and suggesting he turned down numerous offers around the world

Cristiano Ronaldo wasted no time in revealing he turned down “many opportunities” before signing for Al-Nassr.
During his unveiling at the Saudi club, the 37-year-old hit back at critics that claimed he went back on his word after his Manchester United exit. Ronaldo had previously stated he would remain at the top level rather than chase the riches on offer to him around the world.
His original grievances with United appeared to stem from the fact that they had missed out on the Champions League. Despite top scoring in his first season back at Old Trafford, the Red Devils could only manage a place in the Europa League – recording their lowest ever Premier League points tally in the process.

And with his goalscoring record under threat, it was reported that Ronaldo urged agent Jorge Mendes to find him a club in Europe’s top competition. That didn’t materialise though, despite the Portuguese claiming he snubbed plenty of offers.

“I am so proud at making this big decision in my life and my career. My work in Europe is done. I played for all the most important clubs,” he explained.

“I had many opportunities in Europe. Many clubs in Brazil, Australia, in the US and even Portugal. For me this is a good chance with my knowledge and experience to grow very important clubs.”

Ronaldo added: “My work in Europe is doneI played at the best clubs in the world… and I won everything. I’m happy, proud to join Al Nassr. People don’t know about the level here. This contract is unique because I am a unique player. It’s normal for me.”

The majority of those offers have remained under wraps, with Chelsea one of the clubs believed to have initially been interested. However, one that was lodged – informal or not – was from ex-Wolves manager Bruno Lage.

Speaking in the middle of Ronaldo’s first campaign back in English football, Lage said that if United bosses were unhappy with him, he would snap him up to continue the Portuguese revolution in the West Midlands.

“He’s a machine,” said the former Wolves boss. “He just wants to score and score and score. He lives for that. He’s a massive player and every team in the world would want him.

“It’s football and everyone has an opinion. But if United aren’t happy with him then I have a place for him here, but I know they are happy with him. He started playing at the top level very young and he’s just continued at the same level.”

Needless to say, Ronaldo didn’t take Lage up on his generous offer, sticking with United for the majority of 2022 before his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. Ironically he lasted longer than his compatriot did in the Premier League, who was sacked at Molineux in October with his side in the relegation zone.

Ronaldo is set to appear for Al-Nassr for the second time on Thursday, having made his debut in last weekend’s win over Ettifaq. It wasn’t vintage Ronaldo on display, but he did help his new side to the top of the table with the 1-0 victory.

And ESPN report that Al-Nassr chiefs are now convinced he will end his playing days in Riyadh and could yet extend his eye-watering £173m-per-year contract. His current deal takes him beyond his 40th birthday and bosses are growing confident he will not look for the kind of premature exit he was given at United.

There’s nothing like a mother-daughter bond. From accompanying the bride as she shops for her wedding dress to serving as a pivotal part of her support system throughout her engagement, the mother of the bride plays a very important role in the wedding. For Simone Biles, that’s certainly the case. Ahead of her 2023 nuptials to Jonathan Owens, the Olympic gold medalist opened up about her special relationship with her mother, Nellie.

On January 15, 2023, the gymnast made a surprise appearance at a mother-daughter cardio class at a Houston Athleta store and discussed how her mother has been involved in the wedding planning process. “She’s someone I can bounce things off of and has been letting me do my thing as I figure out what works for us,” Biles tells People. “We are so excited to celebrate with our close circle, and she’s a big part of that. My mom gives me advice on everything.” The athlete also turns to her parents as a model of a healthy, loving relationship that influences her own union with her NFL player fiancé. “I look to both her and my dad as role models in many ways but also as examples of what a strong base of love and support looks like,” she says.

Biles decided to join the class, which Houston’s Dance House Fitness founder Jenny Sanchez led, since it focused on encouraging mothers and daughters to exercise together. “I loved the idea because my mom has always been my rock, and the idea of a multigenerational community of women coming together for an experience that empowers them and gives them a fun way to move is incredible,” she shares. “I had to pop in for a surprise hello.” The Olympic gymnast also wanted to stop by to motivate the next generation of gymnasts to achieve their dreams in any area of their lives. Not to mention, she’s a fan of Sanchez. “The energy in the room was great,” she reflects. “Everyone was having such a good time together. I’m glad I was able to join the fun and support Jenny, who is one of my favorite dance instructors in Houston.”

Seeing all of the mothers and daughters bonding during the exercise class made Biles feel nostalgic of her childhood. “My mom was there for me all those years, from school to the gym and everything in between,” she recalls. “She still does, and I couldn’t be more grateful for her support.”

The Olympic gold medalist and the Houston Texans safety first formed a connection in 2019 after Biles slid into Owens’ DMs. The following year, they confirmed their romance on Instagram. In February of 2022, the athletic duo announced their engagement after the NFL football player popped the question in a gazebo in Houston. The gymnast has taken her followers along with her during various parts of the wedding planning process. In March of 2022, bridal fashion designer Galia Lahav revealed that Biles is going to sport a few looks she created. Then, in October of 2022, Biles shared a sneak peak of her wedding dress. “On bride duty,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself in a white mini feather dress in front of a rack of gowns.

LeBron James has made a female fan go viral after they appeared to exchange glances and a smiles during an LA Lakers home game against the Rockets.
As one of the nerve centers of Los Angeles entertainment, the Crypto.com Arena is no stranger to fans trying to get the attention of the stars. The most famous case in recent years was that of Rihanna and Laker Alex Caruso.

That video also went viral in NBA circles and on social media. But it is not every day that LeBron James stars in one of these episodes.

Nervous laughter
During the last game that the Los Angeles Lakers played at home, a fan in a courtside seat fixed her gaze for several seconds on the four-time MVP. LeBron seems to ignore her until, noticing her presence, he crosses glances with her.

This prompted nervous laughter from King James and silent rejoicing from the fan, who continued to smile at him.
Whether or not James and the blonde fan really exchanged glances or this was a coincidence remains to be seen, but social media users have been having fun with it anyway.

Perhaps Savannah James, LeBron’s wife of ten years and high-school sweetheart, isn’t smiling so much.

Roger Federer teamed up with old rival Rafael Nadal for his last professional match , with Novak Djokovic present at The O2 in London to see his Team Europe colleague call time on a successful career at the Laver Cup

Novak Djokovic expressed his gratitude at being part of Roger Federer’s “beautiful” farewell to professional tennis but admitted to being left with mixed emotions over the retirement of his rival.

The Serbian was present at The O2 on Friday night to watch his Team Europe colleague bow out from competitive sport following a doubles defeat in the Laver Cup to Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.

Roger Federer partnered up with Rafael Nadal – the other member of the ‘big three’ – for his last match but in keeping with the unique situation of the London event, Djokovic was one of the most vocal to provide support for two players who have usually been his biggest competitors.

An emotional goodbye to the pro game was afforded to Federer, who received a succession of ovations and had a retirement video package played on the big screen before singer Ellie Goulding produced a performance that left the Swiss star and Nadal in tears.

Djokovic, speaking after his singles’ victory over Tiafoe on Saturday, said: “Well, I think we would all agree this was one of the most beautiful moments anyone has experienced live or on a tennis court worldwide. We all knew it would be an emotional farewell for Roger but I think we were all taken away by the moment.

“At the same time it is a mix of emotions. Sadness because one of the greatest athletes of all time is leaving the sport but on the other hand seeing him happy with the way it all played out, I was just very grateful and privileged to be alongside other Team World and Europe players to witness that.

“It was one of the most beautiful moments I have ever experienced in my life, for sure.”

Federer had hinted in the hours after his ‘last dance’ that a potential farewell tour could be on the cards.

He had announced last week the doubles contest on night one of the Laver Cup, the Ryder Cup-style team competition he set up, would be his last on the ATP Tour but the door has been left open for more chances to see him on tennis courts around the world, just not in a professional capacity.

“I have no plans whatsoever like where, how, when,” Federer said during a press conference that did not finish until after 2am on Saturday. “All I know is I would love to go and play places I have never played before or go say thank yous for years to come to all the people that have been so supportive of me.

“Because the hard part about the Laver Cup was that tickets were already sold out. You know, the people who maybe would have also loved to be here couldn’t make it. Maybe there is another way down the stretch we can party all together.”

Defeat on a comeback was finally admitted publicly by Federer last week after a succession of operations during the last two and a half years on his right knee proved unsuccessful.

It meant the final singles contest of his career occurred at Wimbledon last year, where he lost in the quarter-finals to Hubert Hurkacz, but he insisted retirement – which he settled on last month – was no longer a scary concept.

“I was able to remind myself always on the court again how wonderful this is,” Federer said. “This is not the end, end, you know, life goes on. I’m healthy, I’m happy, everything’s great and this is just a moment in time.”

Carrie Underwood is an inspiration in more ways than one. The country star and eight-time Grammy winner recently blew fans’ minds by performing with legendary rock band Guns N’ Roses in London. Her newest and ninth studio album, Denim & Rhinestones, is a big success, as is her fitness clothing brand, CALIA, now in its seventh year on the market. Fans are often turning to her Instagram page for insight on how to live healthily and stay in shape, with the 39-year-old regularly sharing her workouts — even when she’s on tour. Not to mention that she’s written a book about exercise and nutrition!

To prove she knows a thing or two about keeping fit, here are five photos of Carrie Underwood in a bikini you’ll definitely want to see and don’t forget to check out these 30 Top Celebrity Swimsuit Moments to become summer-ready too.

The “Jesus, Take the Wheel” singer looked fresh-faced and radiant in a poolside selfie that flaunted her tights abs. Rocking a dark top with a tropical motif and low-waist red bottoms, she smiled big as she turned the camera on herself, angling it in a way that also captured her slender hips. “Is it summer yet? ☀️,” she wrote in the caption, adding a “PoolReady” hashtag. The chic sunhat she wore suggested she definitely was.

You won’t find the mother-of-two staying idle for too long. While she’s not likely to pass up the chance for a relaxing sunbath by the pool, Underwood is big on outdoor activities, with lake-based fun being top of her list. Last summer, the singer took fans along on a lake boat trip via Instagram and showed off her fishing skills, posing with some bass she caught.

Also on display were her chiseled abs, perfectly framed by a patterned two-piece swimsuit in black-and-white. The sporty set teased a glimpse of her cleavage and left her flat tummy in full view of the camera. Did we mention the matching sunglasses that were to die for?

3. Summertime Essentials

Another lakeside post introduced fans to Underwood’s summertime essentials as she showed off her ripped abs and toned everything against a scenic view. Rocking her muscular figure in a cream bikini, she listed her summer checklist in the caption, ranking “sunshine,” “lake,” and “time with family and friends” highest. She wore a swimsuit from her own brand and her sunnies were on point.

“Summertime is all about love…love for people, love for the outdoors and love for living in the moment!” she added. “Get out there and relax!”

In the image, she could be seen hanging out on a boat next to a large U.S. flag, with the ocean stretching at her back. She wore a black halterneck top with semi-sheer detailing and showed her love for florals with colorful bikini bottoms. “Love this swimsuit!” read her caption.

The former American Idol winner liked the look so much that she posted it again in a sunkissed selfie. “I’m on a boat!” she wrote. Wish we could have been there too.

Nothing beats a good mirror selfie, especially if you can take it in a large walk-in closet. Talk about closet envy AND swimsuit envy! Taking to Instagram to celebrate the “first day of summer” a while back, Underwood wowed fans with her trim figure and glowing, doll-faced complexion as she showed off her favorite “swim combo:” a low-cut gym top and high-rise briefs in a dynamic striped print. We also loved her Boho waves that perfectly framed her face. Also, did you see that walk-in closet?

Matt Fitzpatrick took home the U.S. Open win on Sunday, but there was another major story that brewed throughout the week leading up to his win.

LIV Golf Series players were eligible to play in the golf major tournament in Brookline, Mass., meaning Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and others were on the course at The Country Club.

The LIV Golfers didn’t fare too well, though. While the PGA Tour defectors aren’t too far removed from playing on the PGA Tour and related events, for some it looked like it was their first time on a course. Maybe it was nerves, maybe it was pressure, or maybe it was just a difficult course to play.

The Country Club is still a notoriously tough course, so it’s not as if the LIV golfers were overmatched.

That said, it might be the last week that members of the LIV tour get to play in the U.S. Open — that is, if USGA boss Mike Whan reconsiders certain qualifying aspects of the 2023 edition.

If this is the end for LIV golfers, then they went out with a flutter and not a flourish. Here’s how they played:

Spain’s Rafael Nadal said moving into a 14th French Open final because opponent Alexander Zverev was injured and taken off court in a wheelchair was “not the way” he wanted to win.

Rafael Nadal, seeded fifth, was leading 7-6 (10-8) 6-6 when Germany’s Zverev retired after turning on his ankle.

Rafael Nadal

“If you are human, you should feel very sorry for a colleague,” Rafael Nadal said.

“To see a colleague like this, even if for me it’s a dream to be in the final, is not the way that we want it to be.”

Zverev said it “looked like a very serious injury” in a video message posted on Instagram on Friday night.

“The medical team and doctors are still checking on it. We will let you know as soon as we know more,” he said.

“It is not an easy moment for me.”

Third seed Zverev screamed in pain when he went down on the baseline after turning his right ankle on the final point of the 12th game of the second set.

A concerned Nadal went round to check on his opponent as a medic raced on to the court to help the 25-year-old German.

The seriousness of the situation was immediately clear, with Zverev screaming and signalling for help as he lay on the clay.

Medics quickly arrived and it seemed obvious he would not be able to continue once the wheelchair was called for.

Afterwards, Nadal said it was “not easy” to talk following the incident.

“The only thing that I can say is I hope he’s not too bad,” added 36-year-old Nadal, who will play Norwegian eighth seed Casper Ruud in Sunday’s final.

“Hopefully, it’s just the normal thing when you turn your ankle and hopefully nothing is broken.”

RAFAEL NADAL and Novak Djokovic are one match away from another French Open showdown.

Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are now just one match away from a 59th meeting, and the world No 1 has admitted they will likely be requesting different time slots for their potential quarter-final meeting. If both players can make it to the last-eight at the French Open, it will be their first clash since the top seed upset the 13-time champion in last year’s semi-final.

Rafael Nadal and novak Djokovic

Rafael Nadal and Djokovic are on a collision course after ending up in the same section of the French Open draw. With the two former champions in Paris in the top quarter, they could meet in a mouthwatering quarter-final, a rematch of their semi-final on the same stage 12 months ago.

But with night sessions on the tournament’s main stadium, court Philippe-Chatrier – a new feature for 2022 -, one man will be left short-changed after last year’s champion admitted they would be requesting different times for the match. Nadal notoriously does not enjoy playing on the clay at night, something he reiterated on Monday, while Djokovic prefers the conditions of the night session.

Appearing on French television after his three-set victory over Aljaz Bedene on Friday, the world No 1 said: “All I will say is Rafa and I would make different requests.” Meanwhile the man dubbed the ‘King of Clay’ shared his dislike for the new night session conditions after he earned his own straight-sets win over Botic van de Zandschulp.

“I don’t like night sessions on clay. I say the other day. I am very clear with that,” the world No 5 said when asked about the chances of playing at night again, after he was given the night session slot in his second round match.

“I don’t like to play on clay during the night, because humidity is higher, the ball is slower, and can be very heavy conditions especially when it’s cold. I think that makes a big difference on the way who played tennis on clay during the night and during the day.”

But Nadal will first need to survive a meeting with his former coach and uncle Toni’s new charge Felix Auger-Aliassime in Sunday’s fourth round, while Djokovic will face Diego Schwartzman for the seventh time in the round-of-16.

Both players have remained coy on their potential quarter-final but have been tearing through the draw so far, with Nadal and Djokovic yet to drop a set. They are also in the same half as Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev, though both men were forced to save match points in their own respective five-set battles in Wednesday’s second round.

Rafael Nadal

It was a fairly competitive match, but the top seed remained in control throughout the contest. The Serb had kicked off his title defense with a commanding 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 win over Yoshihito Nishioka. Djokovic is currently playing in the French Open, where he’s the defending champion. It’s one of two Grand Slam tournaments in which he hasn’t won consecutive titles, with the US Open being the other.Djokovic registered a 6-2, 6-3, 7-6(4) win against World No. 38 Alex Molcan in the second round on Wednesday.

Aljaz Bedene beat Pablo Cuevas in the second round with a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-4 to reach the third round at the Grand Slam in Paris, France and book a meeting with No. 1 ATP player Novak Djokovic. Djokovic is set to meet Aljaz Bedene in the third round of the 2022 French Open tomorrow. The ATP No. 1 after a comfortable win over his first-round opponent Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan, had a tough fight in the second against Alex Molcan. Meanwhile, Aljaz went through four sets to come past Christopher O’Connell in the first and defeated clay specialist Pablo Cuevas in the second round. After lifting the trophy in Paris for the first time in 2016, his title defense ended in the quarterfinals the following year. The Serb went on to add a second title in 2021.

RAFAEL NADAL CONTINUES HIS SOLID RUN

If there were any worries about Nadal’s foot injury issues, they seem to have been laid to rest in the first two rounds here at Roland-Garros. After dropping just six games in his rout of Jordan Thompson in the first round, the Spaniard got the better of Corentin Moutet in the second in another straight-setter. Nadal needed just over two hours to get the Frenchman, winning 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 but it did see him drop his serve on two different occasions.

Both of it came in the third set, by when the Spaniard was already two sets – falling 2-0 down at one stage and then failing to serve it out at 5-3. Nadal quickly recovered to break his opponent in the very next game to wrap things up.

What Nadal will look to change is the number of unforced errors, which he clocked at 22 over the three sets. The 27 winners helped but as he grows into better rhythm, the former world number one will hope to slowly shed off some of the wariness around his foot injury.

VAN DE ZANDSCHULP GETS PAST INJURED FOGNINI
The manner in which van de Zandschulp had struggled to get past the 141st-ranked Pavel Kotov in his first round, there were doubts how he would manage against a much more experienced and better-pedigreed opponent in the second.

Fabio Fognini is a Masters 1000 winner but van de Zandschulp got his act together well and lived up to his favourites billing to race off to a two sets to love lead.

Fognini lasted five more games in the third set before opting to retire from the encounter because of an injury.

The match lasted two hours with van de Zandschulp overcoming a break of serve in the opening set to break Fognini two times in a row to clinch it.The second set was tougher for van de Zandschulp as he fell 5-1 down before mounting a comeback of the day. He won the next five games, saving two set-points in the process before completing the win in the tie-breaker. Can van de Zandschulp show a similar kind of grit against Nadal though?

Bedene entered the tournament with not in a good form but Slovakia seemed to have earned his shape back with some strong serves. On the other hand, Serb, Djokovic didn’t drop a set while he clinched the Italian Open title, thought-out the tournament. The pick of the match is Novak Djokovic as he is better in the form to be able to progress to the next round. Novak Djokovic vs Aljaz Bedene Live Stream, Preview, Predictions & Tips – Djokovic to win in straight sets at Roland Garros

This will be the fourth meeting between both players, with Djokovic winning on each of the three previous occasions.

They have met twice on clay, at the Rome Masters in 2017 and here at Roland Garros with Djokovic winning in straight sets each time. After what has been a difficult few months for the world number one primarily due to reasons off the court, it has been a very good comeback by Novak Djokovic. The early part of the clay season saw Djokovic struggle but slowly and surely he has continued to get back to old form.

A crucial title win in Rome week before last where the world number one looked to be getting back to himself set the foundation for Ronald Garros and the defending champion here has carried it forward.

Opening the defense of his title against Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka, there were some tight moments early on, but once Djokovic got his ‘pop’ going, there was no stopping him. Dropping only four games in his opener, the Serb played Alex Molcan of Slovakia, who is currently being coached by Marian Vajda who Djokovic parted ways with recently.
